‼️Meningitis Outbreak Posted or Updated on 18 Mar 2026

‼️Meningitis Vaccines – General Information due to increased queries
There are several vaccines that protect against different types of meningitis, including:
• MenB vaccine – part of the routine childhood schedule since 1 May 2015
• Hib/MenC vaccine – usually given as part of childhood immunisations (born on or before 30th June 2024)
• MenACWY vaccine – offered to teenagers aged 13-14, often through school vaccination programmes
Vaccination history can vary depending on age, school vaccination programmes, and the national immunisation schedule at the time.
Staying aware of which vaccines you or your children may have received can help you understand your level of protection.
If you were born before 1 May 2015, there is no NHS catch up programme for the MenB vaccine.

Can I have the MenB vaccine privately?
The MenB vaccine can be accessed privately through high street pharmacies, private GP providers and travel clinics. For those aged over 2 years, the vaccination course consists of 2 doses.
